How I Stitched It: Diamond Sunglass Strap

The Evelyn Designs sunglass strap / collar is the perfect quick stitch for a loved one or pet. I stitched the canvas as a sunglass strap but will still highlight important information for those who go the collar rout!
Before you start stitching, it is important to identify who will do the "finishing." This is because finishing determines amount of stitching that needs to be done (along the length of the canvas). Furthermore, each finisher has different conventions that they work under! A possible finishing recommendation is Hill Top Leather Shop. I love how the sizing standards are outlined online, and the fact that they have a direct to consumer channel!
Regarding thread recommendations, I stitched with DMC Pearl Cotton #5. This thread is available at many needlepoint shops as well as Michael's Crafts and Joann Fabrics. As seen above, this canvas pairs wonderfully with #842, #823, #799, and #367. In my experience, DMC is a cost effective, sturdy option! Perfect for a sunglass strap or dog collar that will likely experience wear and tear.
The image above outlines how I decided to stitch the canvas. The tent stitches are "flipped" so the diamonds look even on both sides. This also had the added benefit of keeping the canvas square and eliminating the need for blocking!
